Tips for a better photo
  • Daylight from a window beats flash. Flash flattens fur and makes eyes glow.
  • Get down to eye level with your pet. A photo taken from above makes the head look small.
  • Fill the frame: the face and shoulders should take up most of the picture.
  • Keep whiskers and ears inside the frame and in focus. Wait for a sharp shot, not a perfect pose.
  • One pet per photo gives the cleanest result. Use a second photo for another pet.

Printing it

Send the file to any print shop, or print at home on matte photo paper. At 300 dpi, an 8×10 file prints sharp at arm’s length. Standard frames at 8×10 and 11×14 inches fit without cropping. If a shop trims the edge, keep the face away from the border.

Digital compared with a painting

A digital portrait costs less and has no wait, but it is not a physical artwork. The comparison page sets out price, time and shipping side by side.
